Kyle is an environmental storyteller combining athletics and art to chronicle our changing planet.

Starting his career in China with fluent Mandarin, he was recognized with an inaugural and two-time win at China’s Wildlife Image and Film Competition, becoming a TEDx speaker, Peking University Outstanding Alumni, National Geographic Expert, sponsored by The North Face, and only foreign judge for China’s annual Outdoor Environmental Awards. He completed the historic first circumambulation of Ganggeqiaji and expanded the known range of Meconopsis barbiseta.

His work has been published in National Geographic, The New York Times, BBC, Outside Magazine, The Nature Conservancy, Conservation International, bioGraphic, The China Project, and more.

He was hailed by China’s Outdoor Magazine as “The American protecting China’s wild.” Becoming a participant in China’s outdoors and environmental community is his proudest accomplishment.

As a mountain athlete, Kyle ranks in the top 1% of trail runners worldwide (ITRA 711) and holds speed records running India’s Nanga Sago (18,950 ft), Kenya’s Mt. Kenya (16,355 ft), and China’s Minya Konka circuit (45 mi).

He is a member of the International League of Conservation Photographers, The Explorers Club, ICIMOD’s Save our Snow Campaign, and the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations.
